Portrait & Lifestyle Photography

My deep affection for the natural world influences my creative style. I love to observe my subjects and capture them within their environment in a very natural, honest and uncontrived way.

Hello! I’m Jayda

"My biggest appreciation in life is the opportunity to live a unique one."

As a person, a photographer and an artist I seek connection between the real you, the real me and the world around us.

My love for photography started at a young age. When I was ten years old I remember my dad brought home a digital camera left behind in his restaurant. It was stuck between some couch cushions in the dining room. He handed me the camera and I remember my eyes lighting up. I inserted some new batteries and began photographing my own version of the world around me. The idea that I could pause moments in time really spoke to me and brought out this creative drive I had never experienced before.

I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and at the age of twelve, my parents asked me what I thought about moving to Turks and Caicos. This wasn't the first time they had asked me about moving to new places. Throughout my childhood my family and I followed my dad's culinary career to New York, England, Canada and now the Caribbean. We were pretty good at fresh starts and fortunately for my parents and I, it led us to our forever place. Moving to the Caribbean at a young age sparked an innate love for nature and it undoubtedly influenced my work as an artist. The islands gifted me with a vibrant and colourful canvas to create whether that be through a lens, a paintbrush or a mouse-click. My biggest appreciation in life is the opportunity to live a unique one.

After completing high school in 2016, I moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada to complete a bachelor of arts degree in Media Production at Ryerson University. Initially with goals to pursue a career in documentary style production. However, 2020 had other plans for me. With a worldwide pandemic looming I decided to move home to the Turks and Caicos Islands after graduation. It was here I embraced the opportunity to start my freelance photography and videography business. I will be honest, fresh out of university the entire idea seemed daunting and there were many midnight questions of "how am I going to pull this off?". But like with everything I do, I put so much heart, work and energy, until it turned out just right. Three years later I am so thankful for the growth in my portfolio and the opportunities my photography has given me. I've travelled the world, met amazing clients and grown as an artist. Nothing charges and empowers me more than developing my own style and having a voice.

Travel has always been at the forefront of my mind. I can thank my parents for instilling the confidence in me to travel the world with little fear. Moving around a lot as a child created this adaptability in me that craves adventure and love for the world and all its beautiful spaces. I knew that a career in photography would allow me the freedom to explore and experience all walks of life. I genuinely hope I look back at this time in my life and think "Wow, I was so brave."
