Sail away with me to French Cay. All aboard the Marie Helen

The best part about my job are the unique experiences that come along with it. On this shoot I set sail on the magnificent Marie Helen. Marie Helen is a 57ft catamaran that has sailed across the world and found its new home here in the Turks and Caicos Islands. This catamaran was once a family boat, that was used to explore across the worlds oceans with stretches as far as Europe to French Polynesia. Marie Helen is now in the Turks and Caicos to venture on trips throughout the Caribbean, perfect for the adventurous tourist.

I was brought on this project by dear friend, Dave Douglas. Dave was my first introduction into the boat world, he actually taught me and six of my classmates to build our own boat (which ended up more like a raft) as an after school activity when I was in grade eight. Dave also owns one of the longest standing charter companies here in Providenciales: Atabeyra Sun Charters. The Atabeyra is a gem to all locals here so I was pretty excited to be brought onto one of Dave’s upcoming projects. Marie Helen is going to be reintroduced for charter purposes so I worked with fellow Drone Pilot Nathanial Taylor to get some awe inspiring imagery.

We set sail on the Marie Helen and headed South-West to explore the waters of French Cay. French Cay is a spectacular national park that sits on what I like to call the: edge of the galaxy. If you’re unfamiliar with the topography of Turks and Caicos, our set of islands sit on a sand bank bordered by magnificent coral structures. The Turks and Caicos archipelago is part of the third largest barrier reef in the world. For this reason, French Cay is unsurprisingly a popular dive site. The wall is just a few miles off shore of French Cay, making aerial shots to die for. We spent the afternoon admiring some of the clearest waters I’ve ever seen.
